Booze at a five year-olds birthday party may be frowned upon by much of civil society, but the 2nd of September will be an exception as Q Theatre celebrates its milestone fifth year anniversary with a shindig at its premises on Queen Street!

In 5 short years, Q Theatre has quickly become a pre-eminent part of Auckland’s cultural landscape. Each year the Theatre works with over 60 different arts companies to bring fresh, vivid entertainment to the scene; and has hosted such diverse shows and events as the NZ International Comedy Festival and the Documentary Edge Film Festival. The likes of Lucy Lawless, Rhys Darby, and Trelise Cooper have graced its stages or otherwise worked in the venue over the past 5 years.

Q Theatre is at the heart of the arts precinct in Auckland and acts as a hub of creativity and collaboration. Our purpose is to keep that heart pumping in everything we do. We enthusiastically support artists to connect with audiences, to create fantastic arts experiences in our city.

– James Wilson, Q Theatre Chief Executive

An independent venue, Q Theatre has built its presence on a foundation of strong partnerships and savvy business practices, working with established companies like the Auckland Theatre Company, and emerging ones through its annual Matchbox development programme. Whats more, profits from Citizen Q (the attached restaurant and bar) are put directly back to the arts.

The night will be a celebration of Q’s success to date, as well as a sign that the new kid on the block ain’t going no where soon. It’s promising to be a night of merry-making, music, and jolly japes. Also there’s going to be a really big cake.
