Sorority Noise are my favourite band when it comes to vulnerability and openly discussing mental health. In the latest single from their most recent album You Are Not As ____ As You Think, lead vocalist and lyricist Cam Boucher puts himself in the shoes of a friend of his who took his own life, in a final heartbreaking ode to him.
First Letter From St. Sean has been breaking my heart since its release in March, and the video – filmed/edited entirely in black and white – only incites more pain as it shows Cam walking through a desert alone, only ever seeing himself – either in a mirror, or as what appears to be a mirage of himself in different clothing.
After losing so many friends, as is explained in the rest of the album, the loneliness portrayed in the video seems reflective and appropriate.
