Since their first visit in 2008, indie rockers The National have returned to our humble abode roughly three more times (one of those times gracing Auckland City Limits with their presence), and our love for them has only burgeoned in that time.
Alongside the announcement of their seventh studio album, Sleep Well Beast, the band have released a couple of tracks – The System Only Dreams In Totally Darkness, Guilty Party and Carin at the Liquor Store – that are as enthralling as you would expect.
In a recent interview with The Guardian, the band shared the ‘fierce loyalty’ that binds them together, in addition to the 30 years of friendship and 17 years of playing together, as Aaron Dessner points out, “Even in the hard times, we always still loved each other.” It is evident throughout their entire discography that The National are founded on sincerity and real, raw experiences, which is also what makes their live performances so magnificent and moving.
With a world tour lined up, The National have surprised us with the announcement that they will be playing one show only at the Villa Maria Winery on February 25, 2018, an all-ages venue and the perfect backdrop for the sweeping ballads that The National will be sure to captivate us with.
A Ticketmaster pre-sale will be available from August 31, and official sales begin on September 1. Act fast, because it’s likely that these tickets won’t last long – The National have been named by Rolling Stone as one of 50 greatest live acts. Get excited and get your handkerchiefs ready – this is bound to be a beautiful and memorable show, courtesy of these incredible indie rock veterans.
