The New Zealand vernacular can often confuse tourists and migrants to our fair shores but from the looks of it, puppets find it even more difficult!

Two of the puppet stars of the new action-comedy from Henson Alternative, The Happytime Murders, were tasked with trying their hands at some Kiwi slang as the movie plays in cinemas around the country.

The likes of ‘Yeah nah’, ‘Skux’ and ‘wop wops’ proved more than a little difficult for the puppet pals to get their heads around but their attempts to do so are definitely worth a watch.

The Happytime Murders stars Melissa McCarthy, Elizabeth Banks, Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale and the naughty puppets from Henson Alternative.

A word of caution, although this film features puppets, it’s definitely not for kids – the film and clip are R16 for a reason.

The Happytime Murders is in New Zealand cinemas now.
