Russian group Pussy Riot are headed to Auckland to headline the Auckland Fringe when they take over Auckland Town Hall on the 22nd of February. Before they head down to Wellingtons San Fran. This is the first time the feminist pop-punk rockers have been to New Zealand, and hopefully they will be back with more shows soon.

The group gained worldwide attention in 2012 when three of the members, Maria Alyokhina, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Yekaterina Samutsevich were imprisoned for two years for “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred”. This came after a performance inside Moscows Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. Since then Pussy Riot has become a symbol of freedom of expression and rebellion.
