Following the success of ‘Funds Pt. II‘, Raiza Biza, and Abdul Kay, Mo Muse, JessB and Blaze the Emperor release ‘Flying‘, the second collaborative single under the collective BLKCITY. Night at the Museum meets Shutter Island in this tense, horror-themed music video which follows the psyche of Abdul Kay as he slowly unravels the sinister characters that haunt the building he’s caretaking at his new night job as security.
The powerful character performances of Raiza, Mo, JessB and Blaze gradually become more and more twisted, as each artist showcase their rap flair on hard-hitting production from Zee. Flying blurs layers of horror, mystery and paranoia in such a way that the audience are left unsure what threats are real or imagined.
Directed and Edited by Connor Pritchard, with the help of James Moore and Stephen Taylor on DOP and focus-pulling duties respectively, and assistance from Aaron Wakely. With masterful coloring by David McLaren (Hunt for the Wilderpeople), ‘Flying‘ is a piece of film that announces BLKCITY as one of the most exciting NZ Hip Hop collaborations in recent memory.
