Auckland electronic duo IMUGI today lift the lid on their latest track, the super-bouncy hip-hop infused collab ‘Y U Always Acting Like A Fool?’ ahead of the upcoming release of their tasty sophomore offering DRAGONFRUIT.
As Imugi continue to reap the dragonfruit of their journey, they team up with Auckland hip-hop heavyweights Church & AP on catchy new track ‘Y U Always Acting Like A Fool?’ Having met briefly at a previous show, the duos crossed paths again while on an Auckland to Wellington flight. That same afternoon in their hotel room, they co-wrote ‘Y U Always Acting Like A Fool?’ and performed the song that night at VICE’s Christmas show.
‘Y U Always Acting Like A Fool?’ remarks on a contemplative look back on the sentiments and inner conversations that drive the direction of our relationships and the resulting attitude as you pass through and past them. All laid back vibes and hard-hitting 808’s, Imugi pursue their trademark genre-bending sound, intertwined with Church & AP’s lyrical swagger. A smooth blend of sublime beats and hypnotic lyrics, ‘Y U Always Acting Like A Fool?’ regales listeners with a retrospective honesty about past relationships – all too relatable! Imugi found the experience of working on a collab with the prolific powerhouse team of Church & AP completely unique, and loved the seamlessly artistic flow of the entire process. “This one happened so quickly. I’ve never seen a duo work so swiftly and quietly – writing it in like 30 minutes and performing it that night with that special YKK energy that blows us away every time. I love that the boys get into their feelings on this one, it shows their softer side and it’s so sweet” says Yery.
