Academy Award nominated screenwriter David Hare has teamed up with veteran British director Mick Jackson for the upcoming film Denial, which sees Rachel Weisz fighting for justice and truth as historian Deborah E. Lipstadt.

Based on Lipstadt’s stunning book History on Trial: My Day in Court with a Holocaust Denier, the film details the author’s real-life legal battle against Holocaust denier David Irving (Timothy Spall).

From what we can see in the trailer, the ever-reliable Weisz’s performance looks to be nothing short of incredible, particularly when facing off against the brilliant Timothy Spall. Though it’s still too far out to be making Oscar predictions, I wouldn’t be surprised too see her name bandied about come awards season.

Joining the two leads is Tom Wilkinson in the pivotal role of Richard Rampton, a barrister who worked tirelessly with Lipstadt to prove the existence of the Holocaust in court.

Denial will be released in US cinemas on September 30.
