Ryan Adams is now a massive 16 studio albums deep into his career, and he’s heading back to New Zealand to celebrate. On May 20th, Adams will play The Civic Theatre in Auckland in what is likely to be one of the most beautiful and intimate shows of his Australia/New Zealand tour.
‘One of the few truly great roots-rock troubadours left’
– Entertainment Weekly
Prisoner is out on the 17th of February, which gives us plenty of time to play it through until the lyrics are seared into our minds, ready to sing along at what is, in my opinion, Auckland’s finest venue, and the only one that will provide the acoustic quality that Adams’ music deserves. The record was self-written, recorded and produced over the past two years, and we’ve already had a taste of just how incredible these tracks are bound to be with single Do You Still Love Me? Adams is undeniably talented and dedicated, and in between his relentless touring, and recording a personalised adaptation of the entirety of Taylor Swift’s 1989, I’m not even sure when he has had time to sleep over the past two years.
‘One of the most elegant singer-songwriters of his generation’
– The New York Times
The Auckland show will be the first in a string of dates across New Zealand and the East Coast of Australia, and will doubtlessly set the bar very high for the rest of the dates that follow ours. An iconic figure at an iconic venue, it’s bound to be a show that will be looked back on fondly in years to come.
