What can be more common than the name “Ian Smith”? ‘John Smith’ maybe? However, let me tell you now, there is certainly nothing common about the comedy of English comic Ian Smith. His stand up show Snowflake was held upstairs, a more intimate room at the Classic, the Kiwi home of comedy legends, and now, Smith it seems.

Some of us old enough, know the Classic as a vintage Porno cinema, but that’s a whole different story. Actually when it comes to ‘different stories’, Ian Smith’s show was that:one part show and one part dealing with heckler extraodinaires.

These rude interlopers took the show in different directions, which I believe, Smith handled nicely with comedy ‘sleight of hand’. His affable style bringing together out of control situations while gaining laughs throughout the night. It was quite a sight.

I am definitely sure for Ian Smith this was no ordinary show, things were taking on a whole different tangent. We had one audience member affectionately nicknamed ‘Fruit’ as in ‘Mad as a fruitcake’ vying for attention, while ‘Giggling Gerty’ had to make sure, she had something to say while we all listened. Through all this, Ian Smith was steadfast, rock-solid, he was MC for the evening, and controlled the melee using these ‘hecklers’ as comic fodder. Which just goes to show Ian Smith, is genuinely a funny guy. Usually such diversity can naturally ruin a show, he used to his advantage.

Titled ‘Snowflake‘, which is used in part as an anecdotal connection to his evening, the show is a running comedy sketch relating to his short winter holiday experience in Norway. Ian Smith is clever, funny-clever that is, he is very enjoyable to be around, and he has a chemistry that grabs the audience with his fun silliness. Ian Smith is stand up ‘gold’, he proved tonight with its sheer diversities overcoming would-be hecklers.

I can only simply recommend a evening with stand up British comedian Ian Smith, who hails from a small town in England called Goole, not to be confused with ‘Google’ the biggest search engine in the world, the in-joke for the evening. To be ‘in’ on the joke, you will simply have to go to an evening with the very funny and silly Ian Smith.
